Kalpavriksha Planted at University Campus
Jabalpur: In a significant initiative towards environmental conservation, biodiversity promotion, and the development of a greener campus, Mahakaushal University, Jabalpur, witnessed the plantation of the sacred Kalpavriksha (Divine Wish-Fulfilling Tree) on its campus.
The sacred tree was graciously presented to the University by Prof. Subhash Chandra, Dean, Ranchi Central University, Jharkhand. On this occasion, he highlighted the religious, mythological, environmental, and medicinal significance of the Kalpavriksha. He explained that in Indian culture and ancient scriptures, the Kalpavriksha holds a highly revered position and is regarded as a sacred tree associated with the fulfilment of wishes. According to Hindu mythology, the Kalpavriksha is among the fourteen precious treasures (Ratnas) that emerged during the Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean).
Highlighting its environmental and medicinal importance, Prof. Subhash Chandra stated that the Kalpavriksha is traditionally associated with environmental well-being, while various parts of the tree, including its leaves and bark, have been used in traditional medicinal practices. He further emphasized that planting and preserving such significant and rare trees in universities and educational institutions not only enhances the natural beauty of the campus but also encourages students and researchers to develop awareness about biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and the conservation of nature.
The plantation ceremony was performed with traditional rituals and prayers, marking a meaningful step towards promoting a greener and more environmentally conscious university campus.
The occasion was graced by Dr. Rajesh Tiwari, Registrar, Mahakaushal University; Aman Shukla; Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, Dean, along with other university officials.
